RMU survives Duquesne rally

A failed pass attempt on fourth-and-goal by Duquesne senior quarterback Sean Patterson, intended for Sean Brady, on its final drive allowed Robert Morris (3-6, 2-4) to come away with a 17-13 victory Saturday at Joe Walton Stadium.

Offensively, the Colonials were paced by senior quarterback Jeff Sinclair who opened the scoring with an 11-yard rushing touchdown. Sinclair finished with 146 yards through the air on 11 of 17 attempts, and rushed for an additional 60 yards on seven carries including a 21-yard scamper in the third quarter.

Oliver product Donte Jeter led RMU with five receptions, including the 26-yarder that set up Sinclair's go-ahead touchdown pass to sophomore Duane Mitchell with 12:15 remaining.

Patterson finished with 196 yards on 20 of 24 passing and an interception to lead Duquesne (5-4, 3-3). He tossed the Dukes' only touchdown, an 8-yarder to junior receiver Gianni Carter.

Carter had five receptions including a 36-yard catch, Sean Brady had six catches for 57 yards and Noel Oduho added five receptions for 42 yards for Duquesne.

Neither team had a 100-yard rusher.

• IUP 38, Gannon 35: De'Antwaun William's 3-yard score with 4:19 left secured a share of the PSAC West title for the Crimson Hawks (9-1, 6-1 PSAC West) against Gannon (2-8, 1-6). Williams finished with 28 rushes for 126 yards. Redshirt junior quarterback Mike Box chipped-in 171 yards through the air with two touchdowns and an interception. IUP will host Shippensburg for the PSAC title at 2:05 p.m. Saturday

• California 40, Mercyhurst 7: Mercyhurst (8-2, 6-1 PSAC West) earned a share of the division crown with IUP with its win against the Vulcans (7-3, 5-2). Brandon Brown-Dukes carried the ball 21 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Lakers. He also set a school single-season record for most rushing scores with 14.

• Carnegie Mellon 31, Chicago 14: Senior running back Patrick Blanks led the way for Carnegie Mellon (6-3, 1-1 UAA) with 159 yards and three scores on the ground. Vincent Cortina threw for 193 yards on 20 of 32 passes to pace Chicago (4-5, 0-2) on offense.

• Grove City 27, Saint Vincent 10: Shane Kacilik's 109 rushing yards and three scores led Grove City (5-4, 3-4 PAC) past the winless Bearcats (0-9, 0-7). Saint Vincent was outgained by the Wolverines, 344-234. Juan Hernandez was on the receiving end of Kevin Corona's 22-yard pass, which was the only score for Saint Vincent.

• St. Anselm 52, Seton Hill 45: Freshman quarterback Andrew Murphy threw for 612 yards and seven touchdowns on 45 of 74 passing for St. Anselm (2-8, 1-7 Northeast-10).Despite a late 10-point surge by Seton Hill, the Griffins (0-10, 0-7 WVIAC) remain winless.

• Thiel 16, Westminster 10: Westminster (3-5, 2-5) was held to only 15 yards rushing by Thiel (3-6, 3-4). Junior quarterback Andrew Smith led the Tomcats with 160 passing yards. He also scored their only offensive touchdown on an 11-yard dash with 7:35 left.

• Washington & Jefferson 27, Geneva 17: Senior linebacker Ian Hennessy had a game-high 14 tackles to help his Presidents (7-2, 6-1 PAC) to victory. Zack Heyward had 197 passing yards and two touchdowns for Geneva (2-7, 2-5).
