Robby Gordon has temporarily replaced Mike Skinner until Skinner's injuries heal. He answered questions during a conference call Tuesday:

Robby Gordon

Q: How did you finish fourth last year at Watkins Glen after starting 42nd?

A: We had a really good run last year. Unfortunately, due to the weather we didn't have qualifying. I think we were the quickest car in one of the practice sessions before qualifying got rained out so we knew we had a good car and came very close to having to go home. We were fortunate to get in due to a draw because we weren't running a full schedule last year.

Q: Since you finished second at Sears Point earlier this season, do you feel like a favorite going into today's race?

A: I think with the team I'm driving for -- Richard Childress Racing -- we went up there testing last week and were under the track record with just a practice engine. I think we'll be real strong with the race engine.

Q: Do you have a ride lined up for 2002 yet?

A: Next year? Unfortunately nothing right now because Richard and me haven't gone too far beyond this year. We've talked about a couple of things, but nothing's finalized yet. I think if performances mean the most with Richard Childress Racing or anybody else, this weekend will be the place for a good result.

Q: What are the keys to being a good road-course racer?

A: I think road-course racing is obviously different than the ovals. The biggest thing is experience. I've been fortunate enough to be racing on road courses for 12 or 13 years. Even with a stock car, you have to drive them different than and Indy car or even a Trans-Am car. The biggest thing to a road course, and it's a lot like Bristol, you brake in a straight line, coast to the middle of the corner and try to get back on the gas as quick as possible.
