Bobbie Adamson, formerly of Coraopolis, was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa, June 5.

Adamson, 76, married Nancy Henry from Neville Island and settled in Coraopolis after being discharged from the Navy.

He got his start in local auto racing in 1958 in an old Ford Flathead Coupe, which he raced in a class called the Hooligans at Greater Pittsburgh Speedway in Clinton, Findlay Township. After a short stint in the beginner's class, Adamson jumped into a car that was built for him by a neighbor, Henry Avolio.

After taking a liking to the car and the open-wheeled class, Adamson bought a sprint car from Canada that nearly took him to the track championship at the Greater Pittsburgh Speedway.

After racing with some of the best drivers in the area, including Lou Blaney, Gus Linder and Ted Wise, Adamson moved to Central Pennsylvania, where he continued to race sprint cars.

The retired Adamson lives with his wife in Florida..
