The Pitt basketball team has signed another player from the WPIAL.
Cam Johnson of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Coraopolis signed with Pitt today. He is a 6-foot-7 senior guard who could be considered a late bloomer. He has grown five inches since last spring.
Pitt had been showing interest in Johnson during the season, but didn't offer a scholarship until Sunday. Johnson's father, Gil, said Pitt coach Jamie Dixon came to watch Johnson work out and offered.
"Pitt is his love. It has been his dream to play there," said Gil Johnson.
Johnson will be the third WPIAL player in Pitt's recruiting class. The others are Hampton's Ryan Luther and former Beaver Falls standout Sheldon Jeter, who played his freshman year at Vanderbilt before leaving.
Johnson was the second-leading scorer in the WPIAL this past season and averaged 26.9 points a game.
Johnson visited Marist, Bryant and Toledo last fall. All three offered scholarships. He also visited Pennsylvania and Rice after the season, but his father said Stanford, Virginia and Boston College were also showing interest in the spring.
