Pitt's basketball team got a commitment tonight from a big body who fills a big need.

Tyrone Haughton, a 6-foot-9 shot-blocking center from Iowa Western Community College, committed to the Panthers and made his announcement on Twitter simply by saying, "Officially a Panther."

Haughton set a record at Iowa Western last year with 112 blocked shots and also holds the single-game record with 12.

He originally committed to South Carolina but needed to shore up his academic profile so he went to Iowa Western.

He visited Pitt the past two days and committed even though he saw the Panthers lose Monday night to North Carolina State.

But he should fit in perfectly with Jamie Dixon's team as he is obviously a defensive player, a shot-blocker and rebounder.

More importantly, he will have an opportunity to start at center next year as Panthers center Talib Zanna will graduate and there isn't an obvious replacement for him.

Haughton, who also had offers from Memphis, Wichita State, Texas Tech, Tennessee and Fresno State, will have two years of eligibility.
