Pitt senior Lamar Patterson has been named the ACC player of the week for the second time this season after leading the Panthers to wins over Maryland and Wake Forest.
Patterson, also named the player of the week Dec. 2nd, averaged 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game. He shot 62.1 percent (18-29) from the floor and 55.6 percent (5-9) from 3-point range and accounted for 47 percent (26 of 55) of Pitt’s total field goals on the week (18 field goals/eight assists).
He is the first Pitt player to win conference player of the week honors more than once in a season since Sam Young did it in 2008-09.
Also, the Panthers (15-1, 3-0 in the ACC) entered the top 25 in both polls for the first time this season thanks mostly to a five-game winning streak and a 3-0 start in the ACC.
Pitt is No. 22 in the AP poll and No. 21 in the USA Today coaches’ poll.
The Panthers next play at Georgia Tech Tuesday night at 9 p.m.
