High school tennis: North Allegheny wins PIAA boys doubles championship

This was like a championship volley.

North Allegheny's doubles tennis team of senior Kevin Goth and sophomore Jared Isaacs won the PIAA Class AAA title Saturday in Hershey, Pa., with a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Shady Side Academy senior Chris Grubbs and sophomore Michael Kann.

It was only a few weeks ago that Grubbs and Kann beat Goth and Isaacs in a tough WPIAL championship match, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (8-6). Goth and Isaacs are North Allegheny's first doubles champions since Mike and Steve D'Achille won in 2001.

Goth and Isaacs were the only champions from the WPIAL in the two-day PIAA tournament. But two WPIAL singles players made it to the championships.

Central Catholic senior Adam Blasinsky lost to Unionville's John Wu, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the Class AAA final. Blasinsky was the WPIAL champion.

In Class AA, Sewickley Academy freshman Luke Ross lost to Wyomissing's Andre Flick, 6-0, 6-0. Ross was the WPIAL champion.

The WPIAL did not have a doubles team that made it to the PIAA Class AA final.
