Brandon Webb gave the Pirates just three hits in his seven ground ball-filled innings and picked up his 11th victory of the season when Arizona finished a 3-1 win at PNC Park in front of 19,437 tonight.
Webb got 14 of his 21 outs on the ground.
Ian Snell labored through five innings for the Pirates, throwing 107 pitches. He remains winless in 10 starts since getting his second win April 12. He allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out nine.
Catcher Ryan Doumit played for the first time since fracturing his left thumb May 13. He went hitless in four at-bats and was charged with a passed ball that led to the Diamondbacks' unearned run in the second inning.
Jason Bay, who was hitless in 14 lifetime at-bats against Webb, doubled in Freddy Sanchez with the Pirate run in the sixth inning.
The Pirates threatened against Arizona closer Brandon Lyon in the ninth inning. A one-out single by Xavier Nady and a two-out single by pinch-hitter Jason Michaels put runners on first and second. However, Jack Wilson popped to second for the final out.
