Monongahela Valley Hospital Gala 14

Judy Ansill and Dr. S.P. Hewie. (Franka Bruns, Post-Gazette)

Celebrating its "Centennial Summer" Saturday at Gala 14, the Mon-Vale Health Resources Fund Development committee gave the Westin Convention Center that old-time charm. Balloons covered the ceiling of the third-floor lobby where 500 guests gathered for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Flattering the gala's festive flavor was the gazebo draped in the Stars and Stripes and the floral centerpieces topped with lace parasols. Event chair Dr. S.P. Hewie welcomed all, including this year's Dimensions In Performance Award recipients Dr. Sri Kottapally (with Sue), Dr. Joseph Young (Peg), Dr. Michal Lementowski (with Celeste) and Dr. J.R. Paluso (with Betty Ann). Enjoying the swing of Dr. Zoot were hospital CEO Tony Lombardi (with Barbara), board chair Judy Ansill, president of the MVH medical staff Dr. Scott Baron with Nadine, Michael and Stephanie Mino, Rose Sweeney Melenyzer, state Rep Ted Harhai with Audrey Borsevich and Don and Gloria Ivill.

Good Grief Grand Opening

Lulu Orr and Cindy Pickard. (John Heller, Post-Gazette)

The world premiere of an exhibition on hope and grieving, "Between Now and Forever," and a program featuring Dan Kamin, the CLO Mini-Stars and others helped to celebrate the grand opening of the Good Grief Center for Bereavement Support last Wednesday. The center is located in Carnegie Library of Homestead, and its mission is to provide resources and a safe place where those experiencing the pain of death can work through their loss and learn to manage grief. So many supporters gathered in the wonderfully renovated space to applaud the center's director, Lulu Orr (with husband Prentiss and daughter Lee). Orr acknowledged her mother, Terry Griggs, who was widowed at 34 and provided the inspiration for the center. Also there were the exhibit's creator, Cindy Pickard, emcee Ken Rice, library CEO Bonnie Harvey (with Jim), Good Grief angel award-winner Marilyn Chapla (the award was made by Cheryl Capezzuti), Jean and Brooks Robinson, Poosie and Charlie Orr, Heather and Phyllis Semple, Ellen and Jim Walton with daughter Rachel, Sally and Mabon Childs, Tom and Audrey Hilliard, Babs and son Bill Widdoes, Betsy and Lee Deiseroth, Lisa and Howison Schroeder and board chair Dr. Mark Miller with Joan

Divine. Call the center at 412-461-1776.
