UnWINEd, a Toast to Hope for a Cure, promised A Summer Night in the Vineyard. It turned out to be just that -- a relaxed evening at La Casa Narcisi Winery in West Deer, complete with grapevines.
The second annual benefit for Children's Hospital last Tuesday drew more than 300 guests to the idyllic spot, which looks just like Tuscany if you squint. Guests got a chance to sample the many wines produced at Narcisi as they enjoyed a buffet dinner and silent auction.
WTAE's Mike Clark served as emcee and helped to raise more money during a reverse auction, with funds going toward research and development of treatments for pediatric cancer.
Enjoying La Dolce Vita were chairs Tiffany Casarcia and Debbie DePew of the Cancer and Blood Disorders Auxiliary, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation president Greg Barrett with his wife, Kelly Gates, lead sponsor Debbie Flaherty of Day Automotive with Jim Campbell, Jim Fox of Fox's Pizza, Jack Roach, Judge Jill and John Rangos with son John, Dr. Kim Ritchey, vice chair of clinical affairs at Children's, with Dr. Peter Shaw and Dr. Scott Maurer, clinical director of oncology.
Young patient Hannah Smith told her story movingly and made everyone glad to be there.
