After seven years of soirees on the mount, "Jeans, Jewels & Jazz" moved to a new perch Thursday night and dropped the jazz for jam.
Leaving the luxury of the Smart House on Mount Washington for a more urban vibe of the North Shore re-energized what is now called "Jeans, Jewels & Jam," the eighth annual benefit for the Cancer Caring Center of Pittsburgh. Models in jeans and jewels welcomed guests at the door along with Billie Jean, the tiara-wearing Chihuahua. The terrace at Smith Brothers Advertising overlooking the Clemente Bridge and PNC Park was perfect for mingling after getting drinks and hors d'oeuvres inside. Among the restaurants providing sustenance were Walnut Grill, Mark's Grille & Catering, Conrad Catering, Nine on Nine, Paddycake Bakery and others.
Doing the jamming was DJ Heads Up Competition, while event chair Jeff Leonard made the rounds with board chair and newlywed Mary Beth Beggy Fischerkeller. Also keeping guests entertained were the photo booth, the Chinese auction and the silent auction. Donating the space was Lindsey Smith (with Linda Pell). "We're thrilled with the new location since it seemed to be a big hit with guests," said a smiling Rebecca Whitlinger, director of the center.
Among those lobbying to return to the terrace next year were Christina O'Toole, Dr. Ray and Holly Planinsic, Mark Wells, Bonnie Diver, Ray Vinson, Linda and Don Diffendal, Keith Parish, Tina McGroder, Steve Killen, Victoria Berdnik, Chris and Jen Mikula, Anne Grills, Lynn Huth and many more. Winning the raffle for VIP attendees was Sharon Capretto. The prize was a $1,000 gift certificate donated by Brian Smith, Smithology Custom Jewelry.
