Actor and activist Martin Sheen was in town Saturday night to receive the Thomas Merton Award. It was presented by the Thomas Merton Center for peace and social justice at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall. The event featured a reception and guest speakers state Sen. Jim Ferlo and Molly Rush as well as a Q&A session with Mr. Sheen. The longtime anti-war advocate mingled before the program with a select few in the VIP area including the center's director Diane McMahon, board chair Mary Jo Guerico and U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle.
