"A Winter Wonderland" was the delightful theme of this year's Reindeer Ball, one of the few dress-up events for children and the perfect holiday outing for families.
The benefit for A Child's Place at Mercy, an advocacy program for abused and neglected children, drew more than 400 to the Westin Convention Center ballroom Dec. 2.
A buffet of kid fare -- chicken tenders, pizza, a sundae bar and trays of Christmas cookies -- tempted more than one adult to forgo the grown-up roast turkey and Caesar salad.
The Mrs. Claus dance party and a host of storybook characters and mascots kept the children entertained between bouts of face painting, cookie decorating, caricature portraits and balloon art. Deputy District Attorney Laura Ditka (with daughter Chloe) served as honorary chair for the event organized by Connie Murray (with daughter Cate and husband Tom) and her staff.
Helping to raise $80,000 were Sister Susan Welsh, CEO of Pittsburgh Mercy Health System, Dr. Mary Carrasco, director of A Child's Place, Jon and Brandi Bentrim with Will and Charlotte, Sara Scaife with Sally, John Goetz and Julie Maloney with their daughter Charlotte, Mary Beth and Mario Jenkins with Madeline, Christie Knott with Allie, Molly Boras with Sophie and Mattie, and Jessi Pfeifer.mainevent
