The proliferation of Hawaiian shirts and the sounds of the steel drum band helped "A Night in the Tropics" live up to its name as much as Saturday's swampy weather. Thanks to Mother Nature and event chairs Jane and Michael Dixon, the annual benefit for the National Aviary felt like a real rainforest fete. Nearly 1,000 guests flocked to the aviary to dance, dine and delight in their feathered friends. Among those enjoying the birds and a bountiful proliferation of savory and sweet treats from local restaurants were aviary director Pat Mangus (with Julie), the PG's Mary Leonard with Gregg Ramshaw, Maria Anderson with Steven Tingle, Dr. Raymond and Holly Planinsic, Rebecca Whitlinger, and Ernie and Janice Meade.
