Family Resources 17th Annual Child Abuse Prevention Month Awards Benefit was held Wednesday at the Westin Convention Center Hotel. More than 400 guests honored psychologist Walter Smith Jr., who retired after 25 years as director of Family Resources. Under his direction the organization grew from a staff of 90 to 200, with a $10 million annual budget. Also honored were the Gookin Family Foundation (represented by Cristy Gookin), CYF family advocate Indera Multani, family services caseworker Geri Lawlor, Equitable Gas (represented by Bill Lucas) and ComputeReach (accepted by founder Dave Sevick). WTAE-TV's Sally Wiggin and Andrew Stockey and WPXI-TV's Peggy Finnegan served as honorary chairs for the evening, which included remarks from new executive director Shauna Spencer. The benefit was chaired by Mary and Kevin Bode, with Betty Rich and Veronica Yablonsky as host committee chairs.
