Seen Family House Fun

Monday, May 13, 2002

By Marylynn Uricchio, Post-Gazette SEEN Editor

What Kind of Fuel Am I?" Funny enough to bring down the house when Family House hosted Beltway Brochettes on Wednesday at Carnegie Music Hall. The benefit performance by the Capitol Steps drew a crowd of more than 900, and the comedy troupe didn't disappoint as they grilled a host of Washington bigwigs and other names in the news. The fast-paced show capped a fun evening that began with a buffet reception for 500 in the foyer. Guests received gifts of Uncle Sam hats, tiaras and leis to put them in a patriotic mood. Carved meats, fresh greens, blueberry cobbler and chocolate truffles were on the All-American menu.

Meeting many Family House supporters for the first time was its new (as in two weeks) executive director, Cindi Roth. She greeted guests along with board chair Hoddy Hanna (accompanied by daughter Molly). Dr. James Lukerich and Dr. Eugene Myers (with Barbara) chaired the evening with an assist from JoAnn Stock, Joe DeNardo (who emceed as well), Jason Altmire (with Kelly), Irene Kane, Myles Sampson and Nikki Nordenberg (who was not able to attend). County Chief Executive Jim Roddey (with Elin) was in his usual fine form as he threatened to tell the troupe all about Tom Flaherty.

"Livin' Libido Loco" or "Dancing Sheik to Sheik" were Dr. Jonas and Janis Johnson, David and Roberta Brody, Barbara Duffy-Stewart, Dr. Loren and Ellen Roth, Louise Brown (UPMC underwrote the show), Hannah and Marvin Kamin, Barry Lhormer and bride Janet Markel, David and Susie Lovejoy, Ian James and Carol Stewart, Gregg and Judy Troian, Suzie Steitz, Greg Harbaugh, Dr. Brack and Jean Ann Hattler, Drs. Barbara Zawadzki and Dr. Jerome Itzkoff, Leonard Perfido, Paul Singer, Steve and Karen Feinstein, Patrick and Candy Loughney, Steve Robinson and sister Carol Robinson, Renny and Linda Clark, Dave Henry, Connie and Peter Sukernek, Marcia Weiss and Family House's lovely Carolyn Grady. That was Dr. Randi Werrin (with Jane) on stilts disguised as Uncle Sam.
