In a final tune-up for the 2012-13 season, one in which it was picked to finish second in the Northeast Conference, Robert Morris defeated Saint Vincent College, 81-67, in an exhibition game at the Sewall Center Thursday night.
Guard Coron Williams led all Colonials scorers with 17 points, including a 5-of-6 clip from three-point range. The team's leading returning scorer, senior guard Velton Jones, sat out the entirety of the second half after scoring four points in the first half. After building a 23-point lead going into halftime, Robert Morris was outscored 36-27 in the second half.
As a team, the Colonials out-rebounded the Bearcats, a Division III opponent, by a 35-25 margin, including an 18-7 edge on the offensive glass. Robert Morris also made 13 of its 19 attempted three-pointers -- 68.4 percent -- while forcing Saint Vincent into 23 turnovers.
Robert Morris' season begins Nov. 9 with a non-conference game at Rider before it has a Nov. 12 game in the Preseason NIT against a Lehigh team that upset Duke in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
