Thursday
The Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church will hold a prayer service beginning at 11 a.m. The church is at 3319 West Liberty Ave., Dormont.
The Salvation Army will hold an open-air prayer service for 15 minutes beginning at 11:45 a.m. at the parklet at Grant Street and the Boulevard of the Allies, Downtown. Tomorrow is the National Day of Prayer and other services also are planned, including one from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot in North Fayette.
Friday
Various civil rights groups including the NAACP have organized an hour-long rally, titled "Diversity, Respect and Peace: A United Community Response," at 4 p.m. in Market Square, Downtown.
A candlelight vigil will be held in memory of Ji-Ye Sun and Thao Pham at 8:30 p.m. at Ya Fei Chinese Cuisine, Robinson Town Centre.
Sunday
Members of the predominantly black Bethany Baptist Church in Homewood will join with members of the mostly white Pittsburgh Mennonite Church in Greenfield to form five interracial teams to compete in the relay competition of the UPMC Health System/City of Pittsburgh Marathon as a demonstration of racial reconciliation.
Beth El Congregation of the South Hills, in Scott will host an interfaith Holocaust observance. The 21st annual Yom Hashoah Service will be at 7:30 p.m.
May 12
Bishop Donald Wuerl of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh will be keynote speaker of the religious leadership forum titled, "The Saving of a Single Life: Our Faith Communities Respond to Gun Violence." The forum will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Tree of Life Congregation, 5898 Wilkins Ave., Squirrel Hill.
