PennDOT will reduce Route 28 traffic to one lane in each direction for work that began at 5 a.m. today.
Southbound traffic is restricted to one lane through 3 p.m. today from the 40th Street Bridge to East Ohio Street so crews can install a concrete gutter, according to PennDOT.
Traffic northbound for that same area will be held to one lane beginning two hours after tonight's Penguins game at Consol Energy Center until 10 a.m. Sunday.
Crews will reduce southbound traffic again to one lane beginning at 10 p.m. tonight, ending the restriction at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The work is part of a $36.4 million Route 28 improvement project. The main contractor for that project is Trumbull Corp. of Pittsburgh.
The project is scheduled to be complete in fall 2014.
