Man wanted in Swissvale shooting arrested in Texas
The man accused of killing his ex-wife's boyfriend was arrested in Texas after he failed in his attempt to flee the country by jumping into the Rio Grande River, U.S. Marshals said Thursday.
Allegheny County police announced Wednesday that they had obtained a warrant to arrest David Edick, 27, formerly of Brookline, in the Aug. 31 shooting death of Ryan Beal, 27, of Swissvale.
Members of the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force in Western Pennsylvania learned later Wednesday that Mr. Edick was likely driving toward Brownsville, Texas, and contacted their counterparts there.
About 3 a.m. Thursday, school police at the University of Texas-Brownsville spotted Mr. Edick's car in a campus parking lot and chased him.
Mr. Edick tried to jump into the Rio Grande and swim to Mexico but was stopped by the U.S. Border Patrol, according to a news release.
Mr. Edick was being held in Brownsville while he awaited extradition.
Police suspect Mr. Edick broke into the Duquesne Avenue apartment Mr. Beal and his girlfriend shared, fought with Mr. Beal and shot him, Allegheny County homicide Lt. Andrew Schurman said Wednesday.
