A runaway barge Tuesday night struck the Star City bridge northwest of Morgantown, W.Va., authorities said. The bridge has since reopened.
West Virginia Division of Highways inspectors have cleared the scene and "advised the bridge is safe," said Michael Wolfe, Monongalia County's director of homeland security, the Emergency Management Agency and county emergency dispatch. It spans the Monongahela River in that county.
It is unclear how the barge, which was carrying rock and shale, became loose around 7:08 p.m. or who owns it, Mr. Wolfe said. The barge has since been secured, according to an emergency dispatcher, and no injuries were reported.
