A 16-year-old boy attending camp at a popular Christian summer horse ranch in Warren County set fire to three buildings there early Saturday, destroying them and killing 29 animals, police said.
The boy, who lives in Johnstown and was attending Miracle Mountain Ranch in Spring Creek, was charged today with arson and related offenses.
The boy confessed to setting hay on fire inside the three buildings at 3 a.m., but state troopers said they could not comment on his motive.
"It still under investigation," said Sgt. Mark Zaleski of the Erie barracks.
The fires destroyed the Critter Corral, which housed sheep, calves and other animals, as well as Mustangers Feed and Seed and the Livery Hay Shed.
No horses died, but the ranch said the fire in the Critter Corral barn killed two calves, five goats, a pig, two birds, two sheep, cats and rabbits.
Damage to the buildings and an estimated 6,000 bales of hay was set at $200,000.
