Isolated thunderstorms predicted for Fayette and Westmoreland counties could affect firework displays there tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Thunderstorms have been reported on the border of those counties this afternoon., and storms were moving through Latrobe and Derry about 5:30 p.m.

While severe thunderstorm warnings in both counties have have expired, meteorologist Rihaan Gangat of the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh said the forecast still calls for scattered, isolated thunderstorms this evening -- with the potential for heavy rainfall, damaging winds and hail in some areas.

"It could potentially have some impact on fireworks if this keeps up," he said.

His advice for revelers this evening?

"If thunder roars, go indoors -- that's the motto we use."
