State police in Indiana County were trying to determine Monday where three young men had been before the pickup truck they were riding in went off a rural road and landed upside down in a pond.
The men were at an outdoor party with about 20 people when they left in the truck. Later in the evening as they were headed back to the party, the truck ran off the road and into the pond at 12:28 a.m.
All three died before people at the party and emergency officials could pry open the door and pull them from the truck. Efforts to revive them failed and they were pronounced dead at the scene at 1:52 a.m.
"We still have investigators putting together all the circumstances -- where they went, etc.," said Trooper John Matchik. "It's still a very active investigation."
On Sunday, county Deputy Coroner Jerry Overman said authorities were looking into the possibility the men -- all under 21 years old -- left the party to go to a bar. The deceased were identified as Sean Jonathan Titus, 20, Zane Michael McMillen, 19, and Cody Allen Brink Douglas, 18, all of Kittanning.
Trooper Matchik said investigators are trying to identify others at the party who scattered and left the scene when emergency responders arrived. They also are awaiting results of toxicology tests conducted by the coroner's office. Such test results typically take weeks to finish.
