The next phase of construction in the Liberty Tunnels will begin April 2 and cause overnight closures six days a week through November, PennDOT announced today.
The $18.8 million fourth phase, which will include restoration of the tunnel facades and interior, will cause closure of the tunnels in both directions at 10 p.m. Sundays through Fridays. They will reopen by 6 a.m. daily.
Outbound closures will be delayed by two hours on nights where the Penguins play at home. Later this year, two 18-day around-the-clock closures, one in each direction, are planned. Those dates haven't been finalized.
Traffic will be detoured via the Fort Pitt Tunnels or Mount Washington.
