An Allegheny County police officer was arrested Friday on drug and and child endangerment charges.
According to a criminal complaint, Zena Jenkins, 48, of the North Side, called police officers to her home following a dispute with her son, who she said took her vehicle without permission.
When police arrived at her Perrysville Avenue residence, they smelled a strong odor of marijuana and saw drug paraphernalia including plastic baggies and a digital scale in the home's living room, the complaint said. Police also saw trash, dirty laundry and broken glass littering the floors throughout the home.
Ms. Jenkins faces charges of child endangerment, drug possession and possession with intent to sell.
Allegheny County spokeswoman Amie Downs said Ms. Jenkins is a patrol officer who has worked for the county since 1988. Ms. Downs said she is currently on a leave of absence from her job but could not say if it was due to vacation or for other reasons. She said the county will review the incident on Monday.
