New Castle police today said they found a man suspected of killing his 6-week-old son hiding in a closet in his apartment.
Officers Friday arrested Terrance Murphy, 21 of New Castle and charged him with homicide and aggravated assault in the death of Terrance Murphy Jr.
Police were alerted around noon to a baby not breathing. The baby was taken from the Castle Arms Apartments in the 100-block of North Mercer Street to Jameson Hospital, police said.
The infant was pronounced dead on arrival. An autopsy showed the cause to be head injuries.
When police went to the apartment to investigate they found Mr. Murphy hiding in a closet, police said.
Officers arrested Mr. Murphy on a warrant for unrelated charges and took him to the police station to be interviewed.
He was later charged in his son's death.
