A civil lawsuit filed by an Allegheny County Jail corrections officer alleging that managers at the lock-up retaliated for her discrimination claims against them has been settled, according to a docket entry posted today.
Florence Taylor claimed in a complaint filed in March that she was passed over for a promotion to sergeant in 2007. She petitioned the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission.
Her cases were settled with an agreement to make her a sergeant.
But the managers against whom she had filed the complaints with the commissions then made her working conditions very difficult, resulting in a demotion back to corrections officer, according to the complaint filed by attorney Susan E. Mahood.
Retaliation for a discrimination claim is illegal.
The case was scheduled for trial today before U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon. The judge indicated in a docket entry that it has been settled, without providing details.
Neither Ms. Mahood nor the county's attorneys could be immediately reached.
