A former state representative died Thursday afternoon in a single-car crash on the Pennsylvanian turnpike.
The Indiana Gazette reported that Bill Shane, 77, of Indiana was driving east when his car ran off the road, hit an embankment and overturned between the Breezewood and Fort Littleton exits at about 2:30 p.m., according to Pennsylvania state police at Everett.
Fulton County coroner Berley Souders confirmed Saturday that Shane was pronounced dead at the scene from head injuries sustained in the crash.
His wife, Esther, sustained minor injuries, including a wrist fracture, and was treated at UPMC Bedford, Mr. Souders said. The Gazette reported she has since been released.
A former Indiana County commissioner and Indiana borough councilman, Shane served three terms in the 62nd District of the state House of Representatives, beginning in the early 1970s.
