Southwest Airlines will add daily nonstop seasonal service from Pittsburgh International Airport to Florida's Palm Beach International Airport early next year.
The flights will begin Feb. 14, and passengers can start booking seats immediately at southwest.com, the company announced today.
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said the new route will give local snowbirds direct service to another warm-weather destination."Our region's travelers love to fly to southern Florida in the winter," he said in a press release.
Mr. Fitzgerald, who has made increasing traffic at Pittsburgh International one of his priorities, said he hoped to see Southwest add more Pittsburgh routes in the future.
Pittsburgh-to-Palm Beach Airport service ended in 2007."Our customers have clamored for this flight to return," airport authority chairman David Minnotte said in the press release. "Southwest has agreed with us that the regional demand for this market is very strong."
Southwest Flight 1371 will leave Pittsburgh at 6:55 a.m. each morning and arrive at Palm Beach International at 9:30 a.m.
Southwest's return Flight 1095 will leave Florida at 12:30 p.m. and arrive at Pittsburgh International Sunday through Friday at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's return trip will arrive at 2:00 p.m.breaking - region - businessnews
