That whole Penn State quarterback shortage notion is now ancient history. Two more quarterbacks, Austin Whipple and D.J. Crook, will walk-on at Penn State and enroll this spring, according to reports from the recruiting website Lions 24-7.

Whipple is 6-2 and weighs 200 pounds. He attended the Salisbury School, a prep school in Connecticut, after graduating from Pine-Richland High School last year. He is the son of current Clevelan Browns and former Steelers quarterbacks coach Mark Whipple.

Crook attended Worcester Academy, a prep school in Massachusetts. According to stats from, he threw for 77 touchdowns and more than 8,000 yards in his high school career at Barnstable High School.

Crook and Whipple join College of the Sequoias quarterback Tyler Ferguson as new additions to the roster. Before Ferguson committed last Friday, the Nittany Lions only had one quarterback, Steven Bench, on their roster for spring practices.
