Levance Fields' return to full practice was delayed one day yesterday because coach Jamie Dixon decided to change his practice schedule. Dixon put his players through film study and some individual shooting drills yesterday instead of a full practice.
Fields, who did the shooting drills with his teammates, is expected to participate in the workout with the team this afternoon.
Fields did not speak with reporters yesterday, but Dixon continued to say that it is up to Fields when he returns to game action.
"It will be his decision when he can go five-on-five and when he'll be able to play," Dixon said yesterday. "There will be some ups and downs. He hasn't done anything for six weeks. We'll just see how things go and see how it feels.
"There will be some soreness, fatigue. Different things will come into play. It's really going to be a new thing for him, something he's going to have to adjust to. We won't have a set plan. When he's ready to play, he'll let us know."
Fields has been targeting the game Friday at Marquette as his return date, but Dixon did not rule him out of the Providence game Tuesday when asked yesterday.
"I haven't even thought about it," Dixon said. "We have to get him in practice first. That's the first step.
"We'll see how he practices with the guys five-on-five. Let's get to that first, and then we'll start looking at it. We don't want him to come back too soon."
