SEATTLE -- The Pirates announced this afternoon that right-handed pitcher James McDonald has ended his rehabilitation but will remain on the disabled list with shoulder discomfort. McDonald's rehab assignment would have expired today.
Initially, the Pirates planned to send McDonalds to visit Dr. James Andrews, but after announcing McDonald's condition, the team was contacted by Dr. Andrews' staff to inform them of a scheduling conflict. The next step in his evaluation is still to be determined.
With McDonald remaining on the disabled list, the Pirates would not have to make the difficult decision to either sever ties with a once-promising pitcher or activate a pitcher who has not performed well in almost a year.
