The Pirates recalled outfielder Alex Presley and optioned right-handed pitcher Phil Irwin to Class AAA Indianapolis.
Presley, 27, was hitting .357 with a .400 on-base percentage in seven games with Indianapolis after putting together a strong spring training. The Pirates were short one bench player after adding Irwin to the roster Sunday for a spot start.
Presley reached safely in all seven games he's played this season.
Brandon Inge, whom the Pirates committed to adding to the major league roster in spring training, is eligible to return from the disabled list but is struggling in Indianapolis, hitting .125 through 10 games.
