Pirates left fielder Jose Tabata was taken from the field on a stretcher today after injuring his left leg running out an infield hit.
Tabata appeared to hurt himself as his left foot landed on first base in the first inning of the Pirates game against the Boston Red Sox. He took several more strides before crumpling to the ground. He was replaced in the lineup by Garrett Jones.
The Pirates said Tabata will undergo tests Monday. They were expected to call up outfielder Alex Presley from AAA Indianapolis before beginning a road trip to Toronto. Tabata was batting .265 with three homers, 15 RBI and 14 stolen bases.
