The Pirates this morning reassigned five players from their major league camp: pitchers Sean Gallagher, Tyler Yates and Daniel McCutchen, infielder Josh Fields and catcher Wyatt Toregas.

Gallagher, Yates, Toregas and Fields were reassigned to minor league camp; McCutchen was option to Class AAA Indianapolis.

The are now 36 players in major league camp; 18 pitchers, four catchers, eight infielders and six outfielders.

Also, general manager Neal Huntington said that left-handed relief pitcher Joe Beimel will not be ready to begin the season with the club, as he continues to come back from left arm soreness experienced this spring. Because Beimel is on a minor league contract, he could begin the season with a minor league affiliate or stay in extended spring training here in Bradenton.

"The goal is to have Joe healthy for not just the start of the season, but for a large portion of the season for us," Huntington said. "As it stands now, the best way for that to happen is to approach things this way."

Beimel is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Sunday.
