BRADENTON, Fla. -- Television network FSN Pittsburgh, which will transition to Root Sports beginning April 1, will carry four Pirates spring training games this Grapefruit League season.
The four telecasts are:
• March 6 vs. Toronto, 1 p.m.
• March 10, vs. Baltimore, 7 p.m.
• March 19, vs. Boston, 1 p.m.
• March 26 vs. New York Yankees, 1 p.m.
FM NewsTalk 104.7, the Pirates flagship radio station, will carry 12 spring training contests featuring the Grapefruit League opener on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays at 1 p.m. in Port Charlotte as well as both games against the Philadelphia Phillies on March 29 and March 30 in Philadelphia.
All other Pirates Grapefruit League games not telecast on FSN Pittsburgh or broadcast on FM NewsTalk 104.7 can be heard via webcast at pirates.com except for the exhibition game against the State College of Florida today and two split squad games: Monday vs. Tampa Bay at Port Charlotte and March 12 vs. Toronto at Dunedin.
The regular season on Root Sports will begin with Pirates Opening Day against the Chicago Cubs from Wrigley Field on April 1 at 2:20 p.m. Root Sports will feature live pregame and postgame shows for all 150 regular season game broadcasts, plus weekly editions of Inside Pirates Baseball and other Pirates-related special programming throughout the season, all in HD.
In addition, all 162 regular season games can be heard on 104.7 in Pittsburgh, complete with the "Clint Hurdle Show" before every pregame show and the "Neal Huntington Show" every Sunday prior to the pregame show.
Greg Brown, Tim Neverett, Steve Blass, Bob Walk and John Wehner will call the action in 2011. Brown and Neverett will handle the play-by-play duties while Blass, Walk and Wehner serve as color analysts.
