Ward Home hosts 'Picture This!' benefit
Tuesday, January 24, 2012

The focus was the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts Saturday evening as the Ward Home held its first benefit, "Picture This!" It featured a juried photography show where nearly 150 guests enjoyed soup, sweets and a sampling of the works of some of Pittsburgh's best photographers, as well as student offerings from the Ward Home. The event was chaired by Charlie Humphrey, with the Carnegie Museum of Art's Linda Benedict-Jones doing the judging. Tim Burak landed the big one, winning first place with "Huckleberry Finn Fishing at the Capital." National Geographic photographer and Pittsburgher Lynn Johnson took second place. But the big winner was Ward Home, which provides independent living services for displaced teens in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The proceeds will help Ward enhance programming opportunities and provide educational supplies, among other things. Helping to frame the picture-perfect evening were Ruby Kang (with Dr. James), Pert Pivirotto, Demetria Pappas, Sherri Grasak-Mitchell and Laurie Streiner. Thrilled with how the evening developed was Ward Home director Daryl Lucke and board chair Will Baker. -- Patricia Sheridan
