Landlord sues tenant charged with running grow-house

A Franklin Park landlord Friday sued a former tenant of hers who was accused last year of running a sophisticated marijuana grow-house, claiming his operation caused $20,000 of property damage.

Edward Lindsey, 34, of Bell Acres, was charged in October with several drug counts. Police found more than 200 marijuana plants, along with a lighting and ventilation system, at the house Mr. Lindsey had rented at Nicholson Road and Wharrey Drive.

In a complaint filed Friday in Allegheny County court, the property owner, Deborah J. Goldie, said the marijuana-growing system had substantially damaged the house Mr. Lindsey had rented from her since 2005.

Some of that damage was done by police as they "fired teargas into the home and broke doors, windows and siding," she claimed. But Mr. Lindsey had already damaged the home in many other ways, she wrote, removing carpeting, cutting holes in the floors, ceilings and walls and affecting the well, air conditioning and electrical systems.

Ms. Goldie spent $18,398.77 to repair the home, a ranch-style house with an attached two-car garage, she claimed. Mr. Lindsey owes her an additional $2,175 in rent and $587.58 in utilities, she wrote in her complaint.

Mr. Lindsey was held for court in February on charges that he manufactured, delivered or possessed drugs with the intent to deliver them to others. He awaits a formal arraignment in April.

Police were searching for a prowler the night they found the grow-house, but search dogs led them to Nicholson Road instead.
