Saturday, March 26, 2011

The Clean Pittsburgh Commission awarded a South Side man its Volunteer of the Year award Thursday night at a meet-and-greet mixer at the Schenley Park ice skating lodge.

Steve Root, a board member of the South Side Community Council, won the top "Bob" award for his work with Graffiti Watch, a group dedicated to preventing and removing graffiti.

Named for the late Mayor Bob O'Connor, the annual award event also hails the commission's 90 neighborhood stewards for their work in organizing clean-ups. The Most Connected Neighborhoods award went to seven in the Hill District: Bedford Dwellings, Crawford Square, Lower Hill, Middle Hill, Oak Hill, Schenley Heights and Uptown.

Manchester was named Most Improved and Greenfield was named Neighborhood of the Year.
