City Controller Lamb seeks 2nd term; won't run for county job
Thursday, January 20, 2011

Pittsburgh City Controller Michael Lamb today announced that he'll seek a second term in that office, ending speculation that he might seek the Allegheny County executive post.

Mr. Lamb, a Democrat from Mount Washington, said he was proud of his efforts to put campaign finance, lobbyist disclosure and contract data online. He also worked with City Council last year to fashion a pension bailout plan designed to avoid state seizure of the fund.

County Executive Dan Onorato has decided not to seek a third term, and Mr. Lamb's name was one of those mentioned as a candidate for that office. In a statement today, Mr. Lamb did not address the executive's position but said he still has work to do in the city post, including pension reform.

"If elected to a second term, I will continue to focus on transparency in government," Mr. Lamb said in a statement. "Crucial to this effort, is moving forward and implementing a new financial management system for the city. Partnering with Allegheny County on this effort will result in millions of dollars in savings for Pittsburgh taxpayers. We are at a critical juncture in the implementation of this system and I intend to see it through."

Mr. Lamb, a lawyer, also was a founder of the Congress of Neighboring Communities, a 36-municipality collaborative based at the University of Pittsburgh.
