Pine-Richland won two WPIAL girls' soccer titles in the past five years.

The Rams have started this season by knocking off two defending champions.

Tara Trombetta's goal with 17 minutes left gave visiting Pine-Richland a 1-0 triumph against reigning Class AAA champion Seneca Valley in Section 2.

Haley Wessel earned the shutout in goal for the Rams (2-0, 1-0), who previously defeated defending Class A champion Springdale.

The Raiders (0-2, 0-1) are ranked No. 3 in Class AAA.

• Top-ranked South Park (1-1-1, 1-0) extended its section unbeaten streak to 39 after coasting to a 7-0 victory at East Allegheny (0-2, 0-1). Taylor Barum scored three goals and Cassie Raymond chipped in two goals and an assist.

• Haylee Vaccarelli netted the winner with two minutes left to give No. 4 Sewickley Academy (2-0, 1-0) a 3-2 victory against visiting Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (2-1, 0-1) in Section 1.

• Bill Pfeifer, in his 15th season coaching at Moon, earned his 250th win in the Tigers' (2-0, 1-0) 4-0 victory at West Allegheny (1-2, 0-1) in Class AAA Section 5.

• Shady Side Academy coach Harry Fleishman won his 400th game in guiding the Class AA No. 5 Panthers (4-0, 2-0) to a 9-1 rout of visiting Kittanning (0-2-1, 0-2) in Section 2. Fleishman, in his 30th season, has a career record of 400-162-50.

• Ben DuCarme made a hole in one and was the medalist after shooting a 1-under 35 in Canon-McMillan's 210-221 non-section loss to Seton-LaSalle on the Gold Course at Lindenwood Golf Club.

• Sisters Nadia and Katerina Luttner shot even-par 37s to help Fox Chapel defeat Franklin Regional, 157-210, in Division 1 Section 3 at Pittsburgh Field Club.

Fox Chapel's score was a school record.

• Maddie Lucas scored with two minutes remaining in overtime to push Fox Chapel to a 1-0 non-section triumph against Shady Side Academy.
