WPIAL Class AA: Aliquippa rolls to lopsided win against Laurel

Aliquippa, ranked No. 1 in preseason in WPIAL Class AA, lived up to expectations in its Midwestern Conference opener Friday night at Laurel.

The Quips won, 31-6, as four players scored touchdowns. Mikal Hall threw two touchdown passes and Haetaun Mathis retured a punt 36 yards for a touchdown.

Mathis also scored the game's first touchdown on a 24-yard pass reception.

Aliquippa led, 12-0, at halftime while outgaining Laurel in total yards, 348-116.

Greensburg Central Catholic 48, Waynesburg 0

The second-ranked Centurions opened with an impressive victory at Waynesburg in the Interstate Conference. Andy Biros led Greensburg Central Catholic with 159 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Waynesburg was held to zero yards passing.

South Fayette 28, West Mifflin 6

Third-ranked South Fayette scored in every quarter to topple visiting Class AAA West Mifflin. Highly touted quarterback Christian Brumbaugh threw three touchdown passes, including a pair to Eric Meyers, both in the second half.

Keystone Oaks 34, Ambridge 7

Fourth-ranked Keystone Oaks claimed victory at Class AAA Ambridge as Matt McCain rushed for 150 yards with one touchdown on a 29-yard run. Corey Sezacko caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Matt Buckley and returned an interception 55 yards for a touchdown.

Beaver Falls 41, Mohawk 6

The fifth-ranked Tigers featured a pair of 100-yard backs en route to a Midwestern Conference home victory. Andre Williams and Trey Hall each rushed for 112 yards and each scored two touchdowns. Carlin Henderson added 144 yards passing.

Ford City 36, Kittanning 6

Devan Willyard rushed for 172 yards and scored two touchdowns in leading the Sabers to victory against the visiting Wildcats in a non-league game. Ford City scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns which included runs of 76 and 22 yards by Willyard as the Sabers broke away from a 6-6 halftime tie.

Steel Valley 39, Albert Gallatin 0

A 226-yard rushing performance by the Ironmen's Delrece Williams paced visiting Steel Valley against Class AAA Albert Gallatin. Williams also kicked two extra-point attempts and scored on a 42-yard run.

Seton-LaSalle 40, Carrick 0

The Rebels routed the visiting Raiders of the City League as Kevin Hart scored four touchdowns. Hart finished with 156 yards rushing and also returned the game's opening kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown.

Southmoreland 20, Brownsville 6

Dakota Datz scored twice on short touchdown runs and netted 104 yards rushing on 24 carries to lead the Scotties to a victory against the visiting Falcons in the Interstate Conference.

Jeannette 44, East Allegheny 12

Trailing, 6-0, the host Jayhawks exploded for 37 first-half points en route to an easy win in the Interstate Conference. Jeannette was led by Demetrius Cox, who rushed for 150 yards three touchdowns. Shavonta Craft also three three touchdowns, including a 98-yardkickoff return for a touchdown.

Burrell 45, Valley 13

Host Burrell scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to break away from Class AAA Valley. The Bucs were led by Zack Middleby who rushed for 147 yards and passed for 247. Middleby accounted for five touchdowns, three on the ground and two through the air.

Beaver 35, Riverside 0

The visiting Bobcats led, 21-0, in the first quarter to down host Riverside in the Midwestern Conference. Sam O'Neil led Beaver with three touchdowns and 164 yards rushing.

Shady Side Acdemy 35, Oliver 0

The host Indians scored all their points in the first half in blowing out Oliver of the City League. Jared Brevard led Shady Side with two touchdown runs.

Burgettstown 14, South Side Beaver 7

Down, 7-0, after three quarters, host Burgettstown rallied to defeat Class A South Side Beaver. Mike Larocka scored the winner, catching a 22-yard pass from Ryan Dupain with 14 seconds left. Larocka also scored a touchdown earlier in the fourth quarter on a 23-yard run. Burgettstown trailed, 7-6, before Larocka's decisive play.

New Brighton 37, Yough 28

The host Lions won a shootout against the Cougars in a non-league contest.

Mount Pleasant 20, Charleroi 13

The Vikings earned a hard-fought road victory against the Cougars in an Interstate Conference game. Bryce Ansell 's 40-yard touchdown run enabled Mount Pleasant to overcome a 13-12 fourth-quarter deficit.
