Steelers trail 17-3 at halftime
Sunday, August 29, 2010

DENVER -- The Denver Broncos lead the Steelers 17-3 at halftime of tonight's game at Invesco Field as quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger and Dennis Dixon could not get their first-team offense into the end zone.

Roethlisberger started the game and completed 4 of 6 passes for 67 yards and led his team on its only scoring drive of the half, a 33-yard field goal by Jeff Reed.

Dixon replaced Roethlisberger -- after 11 snaps -- in the middle of the Steelers' second drive and did not have a good night in his first showing with the first team offense. He completed 6 of 13 passes for 58 yards and was intercepted twice -- once in Denver's end zone from the nine and the other that ended in the Steelers' end zone when cornerback Andre Goodman returned the interception 77 yards for a touchdown.

The Broncos also scored on LenDale White's 2-yard touchdown run to end the game's first drive and on Matt Prater's 39-yard field goal.

Steelers linebacker James Farrior left the game in the first quarter with a cut to his head after his helmet flew off while he was trying to make a tackle.
