Settlement announced in teacher suspension over Facebook photos
Monday, August 16, 2010

The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania says it has reached a settlement in a case involving a Brownsville Area School District teacher suspended without pay after photos of her with a stripper at a bachelorette party were posted on Facebook.

The unidentified Brownsville high school teacher was suspended for 30 days without pay after she appeared in a picture someone else posted on Facebook that included a male stripper at a bridal shower.

The suspension was lifted in February. Brownsville Area School District solicitor Jim Davis wouldn't say why the suspension was lifted at the time. He said the teacher had a grievance pending and the district was continuing to investigate.

The ACLU questioned the suspension, saying the teacher's actions were private and legal.

The ACLU plans a press conference at its Oakland headquarters Tuesday to discuss the settlement.
