Portia de Rossi changes last name to DeGeneres; Levi Johnston running for mayor of Wasilla
Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Portia de Rossi is about to become Portia DeGeneres.

The 37-year-old actress and a star of TV comedies "Arrested Development" and "Better Off Ted" married talk-show host and former "American Idol" judge Ellen DeGeneres, 52, almost two years ago.

A petition filed in Los Angeles Superior Court states that "petitioner is taking the last name of her spouse," according to several online reports.

The documents were filed Aug. 6, but the name change won't be official until a hearing on Sept. 23.

Levi Johnston will go to great lengths to have a spotlight focused his way.

The 20-year-old father of Bristol Palin's baby says he will run for mayor of Wasilla -- the same job that propelled Sarah Palin to governor of Alaska and later, the vice presidential nomination -- in a new reality TV project.

Variety reported Monday that "Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor's Office" will center on Johnston's fame relative to the Palin family, even though Bristol recently broke off wedding plans when Levi dropped a few bombshells and, well, surely you've heard that story by now.

Stone and Co. is shooting the show's pilot and have started pitching the show to networks.

Wasilla's current mayor, lawyer Verne E. Rupright, won the seat in 2008 with 466 votes, fewer than 100 from his nearest competitor, who received 373. The position isn't open until 2012, but in the meantime, Johnston may try a run for city council.

Kelsey Grammer, whose wife, Camille, filed for divorce on July 1, is moving on, reports The Huffington Post.

The "Frasier" actor has a new blond girlfriend, reportedly a British girl named Kate. Mr. Grammer has been in New York for his Tony-nominated performance in "La Cage aux Folles" and he's been photographed there "with the mystery blonde."

Page Six quotes "a source close to the actor" as saying, "He's pushing for a quickie divorce because things are moving quickly with his new girlfriend. There is speculation that she is pregnant, but he wants to finalize the divorce before making any announcement."

Camille Grammer, his third wife, lives in California with the couple's son and daughter.

In a statement at the time of the divorce filing, the actor said, "Camille and I had been discussing the possibility of a separation for some time. ... I hope to have a great partnership with her in the raising of our children."

Kelsey Grammer also has two other daughters, Spencer Grammer and Greer Grammer.

Celebrity splits:

• Johnathon Schaech, best known for the film "That Thing You Do," is single again just a month after his marriage to Jana Kramer, reports Life & Style. They were wed in Michigan over the Fourth of July. He was previously married to actress Christina Applegate.

• Actors Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen have ended their engagement, People.com reports. The "Jumpers" co-stars reportedly had gone their separate ways for a while now, with Ms. Bilson living primarily in LA and Christensen in his native Canada.

Phylicia Rashad will open Arena Stage's new Mead Center for American Theater this fall in Washington, D.C., starring in the premiere of "Every Tongue Confess" from playwright Marcus Gardley.

This year marks the reopening of Arena Stage after extensive renovations. President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will be honorary chairs of the season.

E. Faye Butler will star as Aunt Eller in Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Oklahoma!" Oct. 22 to Dec. 26, and "Every Tongue Confess" with Ms. Rashad, best known for her role as Clair Huxtable on "The Cosby Show," will run Nov. 9 through Jan. 2.
