KDKA-AM's Dr. Knowledge goes national
Friday, July 30, 2010

KDKA-AM (1020) weekend overnight personality Charles Reichblum, a.k.a. Dr Knowledge, has gone national.

CBS Radio News is syndicating a 60-second "Knowledge in a Nutshell Minute," with Mr. Reichblum talking about topics ranging from history and politics to sports. Some are serious, some are humorous. The format is similar to the minute-long features he does for the KDKA Morning News.

They air five times a week and have been picked up in around 30 markets, including San Francisco, St. Louis, Dallas, Boston, Richmond and Hilo, Hawaii.

"It's a thrill" to have the features on a national network, Mr. Reichblum says. Material for the features comes from his huge collection of facts and information. "I draw on those, but also try to make it current and timely." The hard part, he says, is limiting them to one minute in length.

Mr. Reichblum's encyclopedic collection of stories and trivia made him a popular radio guest around the country, and a couple of the hosts who interviewed him dubbed him "Dr. Knowledge." He has written 12 "Knowledge in a Nutshell" and "Dr. Knowledge Presents ..." books. He's been hosting the late night Dr. Knowledge call-in program Friday and Saturdays at midnight on KDKA since 2004.
