A 36-year-old woman is in surgery for a "severe head injury" after she was struck by an SUV while running with a double jogging stroller in Mt. Lebanon, police said.
Witnesses told police that a black 2003 Toyota 4Runner was turning right from Beadling Road onto Washington Road at about 12:15 p.m. today but failed to stop at the stop sign and struck a woman as she crossed Beadling Road, Lt. Aaron Lauth of the Mt. Lebanon police department said.
The woman, identified as Lisa Styles of Mt. Lebanon, was pushed to the ground and hit her head. She was taken to UPMC Mercy, Lt. Lauth said.
The two children in the stroller, a 1-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, were conscious and alert when witnesses removed them from the stroller, which had turned to the side. They were taken to Children's Hospital and their condition was unknown.
Police are interviewing the driver of the SUV and conducting an accident scene investigation to determine if charges will be filed.
A pedestrian accident occurred earlier this month in Mt. Lebanon when a 77-year-old woman struck a 12-year-old boy with her vehicle while she was making a left hand turn from Beverly Road onto Newburn Road. The boy had a leg fracture and bumps and bruises, and the woman was charged with careless driving and an accident involving an injury and damage to an unattended vehicle.
