City planning commission members gave final approval today for a proposed $100 million hotel-condo project on Mount Washington at the site of the former Edge restaurant.
Members unanimously voted in favor of a final land development plan for the complex, prompting several dozen supporters who attended the meeting to erupt in applause.
Developer Steve Beemsterboer and architect Luke Desmone said the approval would give them the ability to aggressively seek financing for the project, pursue an operator for the hotel, and move forward with plans to demolish the abandoned restaurant, which has become an eyesore at the end of Grandview Avenue.
The complex would include a 163-room hotel and 58 condos, some of which would wrap around the hillside. A condo-hotel tower would soar 20 stories above the ground and contain a two-story tower lounge and observation deck at the top. Some Mount Washington residents believe the project will be a catalyst for other development in the neighborhood.
