Pittsburgh Green Innovators Inc. has a sales agreement with the Pittsburgh Public Schools to buy the former Connelley Vocational School on Bedford Avenue in the Hill.
State Sen. Jim Ferlo, D-Highland Park, said the sale price will be about $200,000 because the innovation group, or PGI, will take over the cost and burden of asbestos remediation and other rehabilitation work at the site.
PGI -- a collaboration of universities, labor unions and smart-growth advocates -- ran two tours today, taking about 100 people through the building. Deno DeCiantis, director of the Penn State Center, an outreach service for Penn State University in Pittsburgh and a PGI board member, said the first phase of retrofitting the building will be under way by fall.
The core mission is to have the building serve as a test site for green technology and as a job-training and small business incubator for green industries.
